Ahmed and Iman

Ahmed Al-Ghouti and Iman Abu Tabana both suffer from kidney failure. These two Palestinian patients from Rafah city in southern Gaza Strip challenged the disease, its difficulties, but also society

and got engaged.

Ahmed, 23 years old, tells that he met Iman at the dialysis ward at Abu Yousef Al-Najjar hospital in Rafah, where both of them have been undergoing dialysis three days a week.

“At the beginning, we were just patients, sharing the same ward and suffer. By time, we had feelings for each other”, Ahmed says.

Iman’s father had donated his kidney to her 12 years ago, but it failed and she had to start dialysis again.

Iman tells that she got used to Ahmed’s presence, who supported her. Their families did not accept the idea of getting married due to their health problems. “It’s our right to live and we succeeded in confronting everybody and convincing our families to get engaged. Whatever happens, love wins at the end,” she says.

Ahmed and Iman hope to find kidney donors so they can transplant kidneys and live a normal life.
