“What is the craft of Al-Makarem? –

a question asked by many people out of curiosity when I mention my profession. Automatically, I find myself explaining with passion that I still practice this traditional Palestinian craft which creates a strong connection between me and Palestine, a country I have never visited.

I was born in a refugee camp in Hama, Syria, 35 years ago, and through this craft, I express my love for my homeland. However, due to difficult circumstances, I was forced to distance myself from my environment and work.

Today, I am trying to return to community work through the craft of Al-Makarem. I feel fortunate that I have been able to make people see our heritage, and I hope to convey my craft and heritage to the world”.
