Talal Abd Al-Salam,Maha Abd Al-Salam

“They always had conversations about who would pass away first. They were like one soul, unable to imagine living without each other. Grandma wished to go before grandpa, and vice versa. In the end, they departed together”.

“My grandpa Talal Abd Al-Salam and grandma Maha Abd Al-Salam are elderly, living honorably together alone in Al-Abas area. Since the beginning of the war, they’ve refused to leave for any place, not even to the south. When my parents and I were on our way to the south, we stopped to see them”.

“However, they refused to come with us. Grandpa had a pride, and my grandma didn’t want to leave him, they chose to stay together. It was our last hug and goodbye, and we continued our way to the south”.

“The Israeli occupation military called them and asked them to evacuate to the Al-Yarmouk area, but they insisted on staying at home. Then, the soldiers threw a shell on the roof of the building. That’s when they decided to leave for Al-Yarmouk, to my aunt’s house. They stayed there for a while until they decided to go back to their area”.

“However, fate had a different plan for them. On December 13, the occupation carried out a massacre in the house next to my aunt’s, causing my aunt’s house to collapse and resulting in the killing of my grandpa and grandma, along with my cousins Maha and Dareen Basal”.

A message received from their grandchild, Aya Al-Badrasway.
