Mohammad Hatem Alnabres

“Mody was gone before he could keep his promise to visit us at home and have our famous Maftoul (Palestinian couscous) that we were going to make for him.”
Mohammad Hatem Alnabres, 20 years old, studied Multimedia at the Islamic University before transferring to the University College of Applied Sciences.”

“Mody, my brother, was more than just a friend! He had a kind heart, was quiet and well-mannered, loved life, and was always caring towards those he loved. He was compassionate towards children. He had so many dreams, and the sky was the limit for him.”

“Before the war, he was in Egypt with his family. They returned to the Gaza Strip when they heard the news of his brother Karm’s death, who was killed by Israel. We stayed in touch through phone calls and text messages.”

“‘When will the war end, and when will we meet again?’ were his last words, full of hope mixed with sadness. Those words brought us together during the last phone call, before the Israeli occupation cut off the connection in Northern Gaza.”

“We were trapped in our home, cut off from the world. My longing to check on him made me walk a long distance. Then I got a phone call from our friend Mahmoud, who told me, “50 days ago, Mody and his whole family were killed.” The news hit me like a lightning strike to my heart and soul. I collapsed and cried in the street, repeating, “Mody was killed 50 days ago, and I didn’t know.”

“Mody is gone, and here I am, living with his memories. He left a heartbreak in my heart and soul. I will never forget him; I recite Al-Fatiha regularly for his soul.”
