Jamila Badwan- Gaza Strip
A story of devoted embroidery
“In our home in Deir el-Balah, I sew with my daughter Aysha and make hand embroidered palestinian dresses. I grew up on this work. Today, I am 60 years old and still passionate about my work, and so is my 26 years old daughter.
My interest in sewing started when I was a child and used to accompany my mom to her work in swing factories and to national events and exhibitions. With time and hard work, embroidery became a good source of income for us, especially considering the harsh economic conditions in the Gaza strip due to the siege.”
