Shatha Al-Sabagh

“Goodbye, the flower of Jenin camp. Today, the victim in Jenin camp is our colleague, journalist Shatha Al-Sabagh, our companion during the hard times of the Israeli invasions, our guide through the alleys, and our steps in the mazes. Goodbye, the flower of the camp. You survived thousands of the occupation’s bullets, so how did you leave us today? ”
Shatha’s colleague, journalist Amid Shehda.

Shatha Al-Sabagh, 21 years old, was from Jenin camp. She was her mother’s companion and the only one left with her at home. Shatha was the sister of Moatsem Al-Sabagh, who was killed by Israeli forces. She graduated in journalism from the Open University. Her friends described her as “the story of the forgotten” because of her deep interest in the stories of those killed by Israel and the suffering of the people in the camp. She loved journalism and was always seeking knowledge.

Her colleague, journalist Dina Jaradat, said: “She was determined to be like Shireen Abu Akleh. She knew every corner, every home, and every street in the camp. She even knew where each martyr had fallen. She was deeply rooted in her camp, in the Palestinian cause, and in her right to return.”

Um Wesam Hanoun, a mother of a prisoner and another son who was killed by Israel, spoke about Shatha and said: “She highlighted the stories of those killed by Israel, often visiting their families at home, doing interviews, and shining a light on their suffering and the struggles of the people in the camp. Her absence has left a huge void in the camp, among her family, friends, and all of us in the camp. She would always visit us and check on how we were doing.”

On March 28, 2024, Shatha was on her way with her nephews to a nearby grocery store when she was severely injured by a member of the Palestinian Authority forces and was killed instantly
